main branch of the North West Pork River, at or near a place
known by the name of the Old Bloomery in said county, and
a road to lead from the said Bloomery Branch to intersect the
Delaware line in a south easterly direction, somewhere about
the farm of Joseph Vickers, and a new county road leading
from the village of Federalsburgh, in said county, to intersect
the main road leading to Denton, somewhere between Staunton's
mill and Dick's old field; Therefore,

1. Be it enacted by the General Assembly of Maryland,
That Thomas Saulsbury, Tilghman Davis, Jacob Charles, Cur-
tis Andrew, and Elijah B. Sipple, be and they are hereby ap-
pointed commissioners, for the purpose of ascertaining the pro-
bable costs and expense of building the bridge aforesaid in a
good, substantial and workmanlike manner, and laying out,
Opening and clearing, the roads aforesaid, and report the same
to the levy court of said county at their next annual session
thereafter;

2. And be it enacted, That When the aforesaid commission-
ers shall have ascertained the probable costs and expense of
building the bridge, and opening the roads aforesaid, and re-
ported the same to the levy court, the court may and are here-
by authorised and empowered, if they, or a majority of them,
in their judgment shall be of an opinion, that it is expedient
and advisable either to build said bridge, or open either of said
roads, or both of them, to authorise the said Commissioners, or
a majority of them, to contract and agree with any person or
persons, upon the best and cheapest terms they can, to build
and finish the said bridge in a good substantial and workman-
like manner, and to lay out, open, and clear said roads, or either
of them, as the case may be, and shall take the contractor or
Contractors bond or bonds, with good and Sufficient security or
securities, under such penalty or penalties as the said commis-

sioners may think right and proper, for the faithful performance
thereof; Provided, that the said road or roads shall not go
through the garden, yard or meadow, of any person or per-
sons, without his, her or their consent.

3. And be, it enacted, That the said bridge, when built
and completed, and the said road or roads when opened, clear-
ed and made good, shall be submitted to the view and inspec-
tion of the commissioners, or a majority of them, who upon
viewing and examining the said bridge and road or roads, and
finding the same finished and completed, agreeably to the pro-
visions, true intent and meaning of this act, shall give a certifi-
cate thereof, to be returned to the clerk of Caroline county
Court, to be there recorded, and shall forever thereafter be
deemed and taken as a public highway, and kept in repair in
the same manner as other public roads are in the said county.

4. And be it enacted, That the levy court are hereby autho-
rised and empowered to levy such sum or sums of money, to
and for the use of the said contractor or contractors, in such in-
stalments, and payable in such manner, as they shall or may di-
rect, for the purposes aforesaid, and levy to and for the use of
each of the said commissioners the sum of one dollar and fifty
tents for each and every day that they may be employed on
such commission.
