AN ORDINANCE concerning:

County Tree
FOR the purpose of designating a County tree.

BY adding

Article 1, § 1-105.1

Anne Arundel County Code (1985, as amended)

WHEREAS, The tulip tree or yellow poplar, with its distinctive leaves and
beautiful flowers, has a long history in Anne Arundel County, having been a familiar
part of the local landscape for more than 300 years; and

WHEREAS, The most famous member of the species still stands on the campus
of St. John's College in Annapolis, the last of America's Liberty Trees which once grew
in each of the 13 original colonies; and

WHEREAS, Anne Arundel County's Sons of Liberty gathered under this
venerable tree to plan their part in the American Revolution; and

WHEREAS, In response to a resolution passed by the Anne Arundel County
Forest Conservancy Board and other groups and individuals concerned with the
preservation of the tulip tree; now, therefore,
