EXECUTIVE ORDERS

WHEREAS, A body of research exists which relates the lack of self-esteem as a
contributing factor to the social problems being addressed by State programs;

NOW, THEREFORE, I, WILLIAM DONALD SCHAEFER, GOVERNOR OF THE
STATE OF MARYLAND, BY VIRTUE OF THE AUTHORITY VESTED IN
ME BY THE CONSTITUTION AND LAWS OF MARYLAND, HEREBY
PROCLAIM THE FOLLOWING ORDER EFFECTIVE IMMEDIATELY:

A. There is a Governor's Task Force on Self-Esteem.
B. Membership and Procedures.

(1) The Governor's Task Force on Self-Esteem consists of the following 23
members appointed by the Governor:

(a) President of the Senate;

(b) Speaker of the House of Delegates;

(c) Secretary of the Department of Health and Mental Hygiene;

(d) Secretary of the Department of Human Resources;

(e) Secretary of the Department of Juvenile Services;

(f) Secretary of the Department of Public Safety and Correctional

Services;

(g) Superintendent of the Department of Education;

(h) Secretary of the Department of Housing and Community
Development;

(i) Secretary of Higher Education;

(j) Special Secretary for Children and Families;

(k) Secretary of the Department of Economic and Employment
Development;

(1) Director of Maryland You Are Beautiful Program;

(m) Secretary of the Department of Personnel;

(n) 2 local Superintendents of Schools;

(o) 4 public members; and

(p) 4 representatives of the business community.

(2) The Governor shall appoint the chairperson of the Task Force.

(3) The Governor may remove any member of the Task Force for any
cause adversely affecting the member's ability or willingness to perform his or her
duties.
