SECTION 1. BE IT ENACTED BY THE GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF
MARYLAND, That the Laws of Maryland read as follows:

Article 27 - Crimes and Punishments

81.

The words WORD "flag", ["standard", "color", "ensign", or "shield",] as used in
this subtitle, shall include any flag, standard, color, ensign or shield, [or copy, picture or
representation thereof,] made of any substance or represented or produced thereon,
and of any size, evidently purporting to be such flag, standard, color, ensign or shield of
the United States or of this State[, or a copy, picture or representation thereof].

[83.

No person shall publicly mutilate, deface, defile, defy, trample upon, or by word
or act cast contempt upon any such flag, standard, color, ensign or shield.]

83.

(A) EXCEPT AS PROVIDED IN § 81 OF THIS ARTICLE, A PERSON MAY
NOT INTENTIONALLY BURN, MUTILATE, OR DESTROY A FLAG.

(B) A PERSON MAY NOT INTENTIONALLY MUTILATE, DEFACE,
