Gentlemen of the Senate :

We have received your message, asking the appointment
of a joint committee, consisting of four members of each
House, to confer in regard to the adjournment of the Legis-
lature ; we have appointed Messrs. Gordon, Kessler, Winans
and Morgan, to act in conjunction with the committee on the
part of the Senate.

Mr. Maxwell, acting chairman of the committee on Claims,
reported favorably upon the bill entitled, an act appropria-
ting one hundred dollars in payment of the salary of Thomas
A. Mitchell, sergeant-at-arms of the Senate, on the 1st day of
January, 186 L, as keeper of the Senate Chamber and com-
mittee Rooms, in the recess of the Legislature ;
