THURSDAY, May 2, 1861.

The House met, and was opened with prayer by the Rev.
Dr. Zacharias.

Present at the call of the roll, the following members:

Mr. Kilbourn, Speaker, Durant, Morgan, Medders, Welch,
Mackubin, Briscoe, Parran, Compton, Burgess, Worthing-

ton, Denison, Quinlan, Renshaw, Jones, of Talbot, Cliap-
lain, Long, Lawson, Keene, Holland. Maxwell, Miller,
Bryan, Wootton, Jones, of Prince George's, Legg, Starkey,
Landing, Dennis, of Worcester, Kessler, Claggett, Routzhan,
Johnson, Salmon, Naill, Straughn, Goldsborough, Brune,
Winans, Pitts, Harrison, Thomas, Wallis, Sangston, Morfit,
Scott, Bayless, McCoy, Coudy, Eakle, Brining, Griffith,
Harding, Gordon, Barnard, McCleary, Roop, Gorsuch, Mills,
Turner, Brown.

The proceedings of yesterday were read.

The Speaker laid before the House various papers received
from Georgia, which was referred to the committee on Fede-
ral Relations.

Also, the petition of John W. Nevins, for a charter for the
Maryland Merchantile College, which was read and referred
to the Judiciary Committee.

The following communication, and accompanying memo-
rial, were received from the Executive by the hands of Gray-
son Eichelberger, Secretary of State :

STATE OF MARYLAND.
EXECUTIVE CHAMBER,
Frederick City, May 2, 1861.
Gentlemen of the House of Delegates :

herewith transmit to your honorable body, a copy of a
protest against the proceedings of a meeting held on the 29th
ulto., at Weverton, a copy of which proceedings, was laid
before you on the 30th ulto.
