310 JOURNAL OF PROCEEDINGS [June 22;

SATURDAY, June 22, 1861,

The House met, and was, opened, with prayer by the Rev.,
Mr. Maloy.

Present at the call of the roll the following members;.

Messrs. Kilbourn, Speaker, Medders, Welch., Mackubin,
Compton, Ford, Denison, Jones, of Talbot, Holland, Mcln-
tire, Maxwell, Bryan, Jones, of P. G., Legg, Jacobs, Land-
ing,, Kessler, Claggett, Salmon, Naill, Goldsborough, War-

field, Brune, Pitts, Harrison, Thomas, Wallis, Sangston,
Morfit, Scott, Wilson, McCoy, Brining, Fiery, Griffith, Gor-

don, Barnard, Roop, Mills-

The proceedings of yesterday were read.

Mr. Ford, from a select committee, offered the following:

Ordered, That the committee on.Claims, the committee on,
Engrossed Bills and Resolutions, and the committee on the
Judiciary, of this House, are hereby empowered to appoint
each one a committee clerk, and that all of the committee
clerks now in the service of this House are hereby discharged;,
and that this House shall elect one, folder, and that the as-
sistant folder is hereby discharged,, and that the Speaker
shall appoint two pages to this House, and that all other
pages now in its service are hereby discharged; Provided,
however, That the provisions of this order shall not take ef-
fect until Tuesday, the 25th inst,, said new, appointees to be
appointed from among the present officers who have already
received their mileage.

Which was adopted.

On motion of Mr. Goldsborough,

The vote by which the order was adopted, was reconsidered,
The question then recurring, upon the order,
Mr. Denison proposed the following amendment:

Strike out all after the word "ordered," down to the
word "and" after the words "committee Clerks," and be-
tween the word "discharged" and the word "and," insert
