Leave was granted to the Baltimore city delegation to in-
troduce a bill entitled, an act to change the name of the Far-
mers' and Merchants' Steamboat Company of Nanticoke River
to the Individual Enterprise Company.

Mr. Maxwell offered the following:

Ordered, That a committee of three members of this
House, be appointed to investigate the Adjutant Gener-
al's report and ascertain and report to this House, how, and
by whom the $70,000 appropriated by the General Assembly
of Maryland at the last session thereof was applied, and the
said committee have power to send for persons and papers;

Which was adopted, and Messrs. Compton, Mackubin and
Briscoe, constituted said committee.

The Secretary of the Senate returned the following bills:

A bill entitled, an act to make valid the last will and testa-
ment of a certain John Hanna, late of the State of Pennsylva-
nia, deceased.

Also, a bill entitled, an act to add the following sections to
article VI of the Code of Public Local Laws of Caroline coun-
ty, relating to election districts;

Also, a bill entitled, an act to make valid the qualification
of John Merryman, as first lieutenant of the Baltimore county
Horse Guards;

Severally endorsed, "passed by yeas and nays."

On motion of Mr. Griffith,

Leave was granted to the Montgomery county delegation
to introduce a bill legalizing the sale of potatoes by measure-
ment in Montgomery county.

Mr. Gordon submitted the following;
To the General Assembly of Maryland:

The joint committee appointed by the Senate and House of
Delegates for the purpose of considering the propriety of an
adjournment, beg leave to report—

That your committee have given due consideration to the
petitions from different parts of the State requesting the Gen-
eral Assembly to adjourn sine die, but your committee think
that the prayer of said petitions ought not to be granted.
The character of the petitions show that many of the persons
signing them are actuated by party influences, rather than a
