Which was adopted, and

Said bill was referred to Messrs. Harrison, Bryan, Golds-

borough, Scott and Chaplain.

Mr. Jacobs, from a select committee, reported favorably
upon a bill entitled, an act to add new sections to the Local
Laws of Worcester county, under the head of oysters;

Which was read the first time.
On motion of Mr. Chaplain,
The House, at 2 3/4 o'clock, adjourned.

TUESDAY, June 18, 1801.

The House met and was opened with prayer by the Rev.
Mr. Diehl.

Present at the call of the roll the following members :

Messrs. Kilbourn, Speaker, Durant, Morgan, Rasin, Med-
ders, Burgess, Ford, Quinlan, Renshaw, Jones, of Talbot,
McIntire, Maxwell, Miller, Bryan, Jones, of F. G. Starkey,
Jacobs, Landing, Clagett, Johnson, Salmon, Naill, Straughn,
Goldsborough. Warfield, Brune, Pitts, Harrison, Wallis,
Sangston, Morfit. Scott, Wilson, Eakle,Brining, Fiery. Stake,
Barnard, Roop, Gorsuch, Mills, Turner Brown.

The proceedings of yesterday were read.

Mr. Brown proposed the following:

WHEREAS, It is represented to this House, that a number
of slaves belonging to persons in tins State have run away
from their owners, and have taken refuge in some of the
camps of Federal troops in this State and the District of Co-
lumbia; therefore,

Ordered, That his Excellency, Governor Hicks, be and he
is respectfully requested to open negotiations with the proper
authorities at Washington to procure the return of such run-
