So the substitute was rejected;

The question recurring upon the adoption of the original

message,

It was adopted.

The Speaker appointed Messrs. Gordon, Dennis, of Somer-
set and Scott, as said committee.

The Secretary of the Senate delivered the following message:

BY THE SENATE

June 8, 1861.
Gentlemen of the House of Delegates:

We respectfully ask of your Honorable body, to return a
bill entitled, an act to amend the XVIIIth article of the Code
of Public General Laws, by adding thereto sections giving to
the clerks of the Circuit courts and the Superior court of
Baltimore city and the court of Common Fleas, the power to
take supersedeas of judgments and decrees, rendered in said
courts.

By order,

WM. KILGOUR, Secretary.

Which was read;

And on motion of Mr. Dennis, of Somerset,

The message was concurred in, and said bill returned to
the Senate.

Mr. Maxwell from the committee on Claims, reported a bill
entitled, an act appropriating a sum of money to pay Samuel
J. Pentz, (owner of the steamer Pioneer,) William H. Ham-
ilton, John Bird, J. C. Bush, Joseph Cook, William Lynch,
John Bradshaw, E. S. Thomas and Edwin Street;

With the following proposed amendments;

In section one, line four, after the word Pioneer, strike out
"six" and insert "four."
