Mr. Kimmel offered an amendment to the

AMENDMENT :

Strike out the word "white."

The question was taken on the amendment to the amend-
ment.

Which was rejected.

Mr. Heckart offered the following amendment to the
AMENDMENT:

After the words "citizens of this State," insert, "and has
his written permission."

The question was taken on the amendment to the amend-
ment.

Which was rejected.

The question then recurred upon the amendment as offered
by Mr. Bradley.

The yeas and nays being demanded, appeared as follows:

AFFIRMATIVE.

Duvall, Nuttle,

Gardiner, Smith,

Goldsborough, of Dor.; Stone—10.

NEGATIVE.

Messrs. Dashiell, Miles,

Kimmel, Yellott—10.

So the Senate rejected the amendment.

Mr. Goldsborough, of Dorchester, offered the following

AMENDMENT TO SECOND SECTION:

Provided, That nothing herein contained shall apply to any free
negro who may have obtained permission to leave the State from
the Orphan's Court of the county in which he or she may live,
or from the Orphan's Court of Baltimore city, if such free negro
be a resident of said city, in accordance with the existing sta,»
tutes of this State."
