106 JOURNAL OF PROCEEDINGS [May 10,
whom was referred the question of the adjournment of the two
Houses, submit the following report:
The Committee do not think it expedient or proper that there
should be an adjournment sine die, but recommend that the two
Houses adjourn on Monday afternoon next, 13th of May, to meet
again in Frederick city on the 1st Tuesday of June, 1861, at one
o'clock.
JAMES F. DASHIELL,
Chairman of Senate Committee.
J. H. GORDON,
Chairman of House Committe.
Mr. Smith submitted, on the part of the minority of the Com-
mittee, the following
REPORT:
The undersigned, a minority of the Committee appointed to
confer in regard to the adjournment of the Legislature, respect-
fully reports that he is constrained to differ from the majority in
the conclusions at which they have arrived. He believes that the
agitation of the exciting questions which now disturb the public
mind, cannot at this time be productive of good, and that the
interests of the State would be subserved, and the wishes of a
very large majority of the people consulted, by an early adjourn-
ment, sine die, of the Legislature. The undersigned therefore
recommends that the Legislature adjourn on Saturday, May 11th,
inst., at 12 o'clock M., sine die.
JNO. E. SMITH.
