TEL BIOGRAPHIES

a tract of unknown acreage in Queen Anne's
County from his cousin William Tilghman (1756-
1827) in 1808. WEALTH AT DEATH. DIED: on April
12, 1809, in Talbot County. PERSONAL PROPERTY:
no inventory or accounts returned. LAND: at least
3,741 acres, Talbot and Queen Anne's counties.

TILGHMAN, WILLIAM (1711-1782). BORN: on
September 22, 1711, at the "Hermitage," Queen
Anne's County; third son. NATIVE: third gener-
ation. RESIDED in Queen Anne's County until at
least 1758; Talbot County by 1761-until death.
FAMILY BACKGROUND. FATHER: Richard Tilghman
(1672/73-1738/39). MOTHER: Anna Maria (1677-
1748), daughter of Philemon Lloyd (1646-1685).
UNCLES: Edward Lloyd (1670-1718/19); Philemon
Lloyd(ca. 1674-1732/33); and James Lloyd (1679/
80-1723). AUNTS: Rebecca Tilghman (?-1725),
who married Simon Wilmer (ca. 1656-1699);
Margaret Lloyd (1683-1747), who married Mat-
thew Tilghman Ward(ca. 1676-1741). BROTHERS:
Philemon (1704-died young); Richard (1705-
1766); Edward Tilghman (1713-1785); James
Tilghman (1716-1793); and Matthew Tilghman
(1717/18-1790). SISTERS: Mary (1702-ca. 1736),
who married James Earle, Jr. (ca. 1694-1739);
Henrietta Maria (1707-1771), who married first,
George Robins (1697-1742), and second, William
Goldsborough (1709-1760); and Anna Maria
(1709-1763), who married first, William Hemsley
(1703-1736), and second, Robert Lloyd (ca. 1712-

rister (1723-1783). MARRIED on August 2, 1736,
his first cousin Margaret (ca. 1714-ca. 1785),
daughter of James Lloyd (1679/80-1723) and wife
Anne Grundy (1690-1732). Margaret was the
stepdaughter of the Rev. Edward Fottrell. She
was the granddaughter of Philemon Lloyd (1646-
1685). She was the niece of Edward Lloyd (1670-
1718/19); Philemon Uoyd (ca. 1674-1732/33); Anna
Maria Lloyd (1677-1748), who married Richard
Tilghman (1672/73-1738/39); and Margaret Lloyd
(1683-1747), who married Matthew Tilghman Ward
(ca. 1676-1741). Her brothers were James (1716/
17 -1768); Robert Lloyd (ca. 1712-1770); and Phi-
lemon (1721-died young). Her sisters were Deb-
orah (ca. 1719-1786); Henrietta Maria (ca. 1711-
1748), who married Samuel Chamberlaine (1698-
1773); and Anne (ca. 1723-1794), who married
Matthew Tilghman (1717/18-1790). Her first
cousins were Edward Lloyd (1711-1770); Richard
Lloyd (ca. 1717-1786); Dorothy Blake, who mar-
ried Charles Carroll (1691-1755); Henrietta Maria
Lloyd (?-1766), who married second, Daniel Du-
lany (1685-1753); Edward Tilghman (1713-1785);
Anna Maria Tilghman (1709-1763), who married
first, William Hemsley (1703-1736), and second,
Robert Lloyd (ca. 1712-1770); James Tilghman
(1716-1793); Henrietta Maria Tilghman (1707-
1771), who married first, George Robins (1697-
1742), and second, William Goldsborough (1709-
1760); Mary Tilghman (1702-ca. 1736), who
married James Earle, Jr. (ca. 1694-1739); Mat-
thew Tilghman (1717/18-1790); and Grundy Pem-
berton (?-1768). Her nephews were James Lloyd

Her nieces were Deborah Lloyd (?-1810), who
married Peregrine Tilghman (ca. 1741-1807);
