North Sassafras Hundred, Cecil County. FAMILY
BACKGROUND. FATHER: John Thompson (1710/11-
1749), Gent., who owned land in Cecil and Prince
George's counties at death, the son of Richard
Thompson (ca. 1680-1775). GUARDIAN: John
Brown. MOTHER: Mary, a seamstress, daughter
of Rene Julian. STEPMOTHER: Jane Houston, who
subsequently married in 1752 Capt. John Brown.
BROTHERS: Samuel (1735-?), who resided in
Bedford County, Pennsylvania, in 1776; Joshua
(1745-?); George; and Edward. SISTER. Mary
(1742-?), who married (first name unknown)
Wilson. OTHER KINSHIP: great-uncle, Augustine
Thompson (1691-1738/39). MARRIED first, on May
4, 1765, Mary Haly of Philadelphia, Pennsylva-
nia. MARRIED second, Hester (surname un-
known). Hester's sister was Mary, who married

(first name unknown) Thompson. CHILDREN. SON:

County, England. IMMIGRATED: in 1636, as a free
adult with wife and child. RESIDED: on Poplar
Island, south of Kent Isle, 1636-1637; Kent Isle,
1637-ca. 1644; probably moved to Northumber-
land County, Virginia, ca. 1645. FAMILY BACK-
GROUND. COUSIN: William Claiborne (1600-ca.
1677). MARRIED first, name unknown. ADDI-
TIONAL COMMENTS: Thompson's first wife prob-
ably died in an Indian massacre on Poplar Island
in 1637. MARRIED second, in 1641, Ursula Bisshe
(Bish). CHILDREN. DAUGHTERS: Sarah (?-ca. 1673),
who married by 1660 Thomas Willoughby (1632-
by 1672); Elizabeth, who married Peter Presley.
