ROBINS, THOMAS (ca. 1702-1766). BORN: ca.
1702. NATIVE: second generation. RESIDED: in
Worcester County. FAMILY BACKGROUND. FATHER:
Thomas Robins (1677-by 1731) of Somerset
County, the son of Col. John Robins of "Salt
Grove," Accomack County, Virginia, who was a
member of the Virginia House of Burgesses.
MOTHER: Elizabeth (1683-?), daughter of Pierre
Bowdoin, a Huguenot immigrant. BROTHERS:
John; James; and Bowdoin. SISTERS: Mary; Eliz-
abeth; Esther; and Susannah. OTHER KINSHIP: His
great-grandfather was Col. Obedience Robins (?-
1662), of Northampton County, Virginia. An il-
lustrious Virginia pioneer. Obedience Robins
served as first commander of the Eastern Shore
for that colony and as a member of the House of
Burgesses. MARRIED first, ca. 1737, Leah Whaley
(Whalley, Wale, Waley), daughter of Elias Whaley
of "South Point," Somerset County, and his wife
Sarah Peale. MARRIED second, Arralantar Purnell

Arralantar was the granddaughter of Thomas Pur-
nell (?-1723). Her brothers were Zadock Purnell
(?-1805); William Purnell (?-1777), a possible
legislator; Thomas Purnell, of John (?-1796); and
Capt. John (?-ca. 1761). Her sisters were Eliz-
abeth; Zipporah; and Levina. Her first cousins
were Thomas Purnell, of Thomas (?-1790); Wil-
liam Purnell (1739-1796), a possible legislator.
Her nephew was William Purnell (?-1798). Her
niece was Ann Purnell, who married first, Henry
Dennis (?-1785), and second, William Polk (1752-
1812). CHILDREN. SONS: Thomas (1740-1776), who
married in 1768 Isabel McClenahan; John Purnell
Robins (ca. 1742-1780); Littleton; and Bowdoin
