1694-1696, 1697-1708, 1710 (quorum, 1701/2-
1708, 1710); St. Paul's Parish Vestry, Kent County,
1703, 1709-1710. MILITARY SERVICE: captain,
1697-1705; major, 1705-1711. STANDS ON PUB-
LIC/PRIVATE ISSUES: opposed Protestant Associ-
ators' revolution in 1689. WEALTH DURING LIFE-
TIME. LAND AT FIRST ELECTION: more than 1,100

acres in Kent County. WEALTH AT DEATH. DIED.
in October 1711 in Kent County. PERSONAL PROP-

RINGGOLD, THOMAS (1715-1772). BORN: on
December 5, 1715, in Kent County; elder son.
NATIVE: fifth generation. RESIDED: in Chester-
town, Kent County; also maintained his family's
ancestral plantation, "Huntingfield," on Eastern
Neck, Kent County, on the Chesapeake Bay.

FAMILY BACKGROUND. FATHER: Thomas Ringgold

(1693-1728), son of Thomas Ringgold (by 1672-
1711) and his first wife Sarah (?-1699). MOTHER.
Rebecca (1697-1750), of Eastern Neck, daughter
of Simon Wilmer (ca. 1656-1699). UNCLES: Lam-
bert Wilmer (1682-1732); Simon Wilmer (1686-
1737). BROTHER: William Ringgold (ca. 1723-
1789), a possible legislator. SISTERS: Rebecca
(1727-?); Sarah, who married Alexander William-
son (ca. 1712-1760). FIRST COUSINS. Simon Wil-
mer (1713-ca. 1768); Rebecca Wilmer (1703/4-
?), who married Marmaduke Tilden (?-1726).
NIECE Sarah Williamson (1749-1794), who mar-
ried William Hemsley (1736/37-1812). MARRIED
on October 24, 1743, Anna Maria (ca. 1725-ca.
1795), daughter of James Earle, Jr. (ca. 1694-
1739) and wife Mary Tilghman (1702-ca. 1736).
Anna Maria was the stepdaughter of Sarah, widow
of Edward Chetham (?-1736), daughter of John
Crapp of Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, and his wife
Susanna Berd. She was the granddaughter of both
Michael Earle (?-1709) and Richard Tilghman
(1672/73-1738/39). She was the niece of William

Tilghman (1711-1782); Edward Tilghman (1713-
1785); James Tilghman (1716-1793); Matthew
Tilghman (1717/18-1790); Elizabeth Earle (ca.
1694-?), her father's twin, who married William
Turbutt (1683/84-1739); Henrietta Maria Tilgh-
man (1707-1771), who married first, George Ro-
bins (1697-1742), and second, William Goldsbor-
ough (1709-1760); and Anna Maria Tilghman
(1709-1763), who married first, William Hemsley
(1703-1736), and second, Robert Lloyd (ca. 1712-
1770). She was the great-niece of James Earle,
Sr. (?-1734). Her brothers were Michael Earle
(1722-1787); Richard (1727-1728), who died of
pleurisy, Richard Tilghman Earle (1728/29-1788),
Joseph (1732-1732); and James (1734-1810), who
married Eleanor (?-1779), daughter of Dominick
Carroll (?-ca. 1737). Her half brother was Joseph
Earle (1739-1777). Her stepbrothers were James
Chetham; Edward Chetham. Her sister was Hen-
rietta Maria (1730-1767), who married William
Hemsley (1736/37-1812). Her stepsisters were
Hannah Chetham, who married in 1752 Edward
Clayton; Suzannah Chetham (1736-?). Her first
cousins were Anna Maria Turbutt, who married
Edward Tilghman (1713-1786); Elizabeth Tur-
butt (?-ca. 1760), who married Thomas Harris
(?-1760); William Hemsley (1736/37-1812); Rich-
ard Tilghman, Jr. (1740-1809); Matthew Tilgh-
man (1760-1801); James Tilghman (1743-1809);
Peregrine Tilghman (ca. 1741-1807) ; James Tilgh-
man Jr. (ca. 1748-17%); William Tilghman (1756-
1827); Deborah Lloyd, who married Peregrine
Tilghman (ca. 1741-1807); Margaret Tilghman
(1742-1817), who married Charles Carroll, Bar-
rister (1723-1783); Anna Maria Tilghman, who
married William Hemsley (1736/37-1812); Eliza-
beth Tilghman, who married James Lloyd (ca.
1756-1830); Anna Maria Robins (1732-1806),
who married Henry Hollyday (ca. 1725-1789);
Margaret Robins (1734-1808), who married Wil-
liam H ay ward (?-1791); and Henrietta Maria Ro-
bins (1736-1791), who married James Lloyd
Chamberlaine (1732-1783). Her nephew was
