known; in 1782 his widow was assessed for
£1,134.17.6, including 39 slaves and 50 oz. plate.
In 1784 she petitioned the House of Delegates to
pass an act empowering her to sell part of the
real estate that had belonged to her husband so
that his debts could be paid. In 1785 such an act

1747-1772. At his death, Parran lived on a 900-
acre plantation called "Preston, Preston's Ne-
glect, and Desert," located on the north side of
the Patuxent River between Point Patience and
St. Leonard's Creek. He purchased this tract in

and Charles Somerset (1733-1781), who were
twins. Her sisters or half sisters were Jane, who
married (first name unknown) Forbes; Ann, who
married Samuel Parran (1717-?); Mary; and Di-
candia, who married John Reeder, Jr. (ca. 1732-

1782); John (1752-1822), who married Ann
Bourne (1758-?); Alexander (1757-1805), who
married in 1778 Mary King (1761-1815); and
Charles Somerset, who married in 1782 Margaret
