LEGISLATIVE SERVICE: Lower House, Kent

County, 1749-1751 (Bills of Credit 1; Arms and
Ammunition Cv-3), 1762-1763 (Accounts 1),
1765-1766 (Bills of Credit 2, 4); Conventions,
Kent County, 4th, 1775, 5th, 1775. OTHER PRO-
VINCIAL OFFICES: justice, Provincial Court, 1754;
Council of Safety, 1st, 1775. LOCAL OFFICES: jus-
tice, Kent County, 1744-1751 (quorum 1747-
1751), 1774; justice, Especial Court of Oyer, Ter-
miner, and Gaol Delivery, Kent County, 1752,
1754, 1755 (quorum, 1752, 1754, 1755); Com-
mittee of Correspondence, Kent County, elected
June 1774; visitor, Free School, Kent County, in
office 1775; judge, Court of Appeals for Tax As-
sessments, Kent County, appointed June 1778;
St. Paul's Parish Vestry, Kent County, in office
1780. MILITARY SERVICE, colonel, by 1769. WEALTH

DURING LIFETIME. PERSONAL PROPERTY: gave

daughter a portion of his slaves and livestock,
probably ca. 1770; lost at least 2 slaves who de-
serted to the British, September 1777; gave son
9 slaves and livestock, 1780; second wife Eliza-
beth owned personal property, including house-
hold furniture, in New York, which Lloyd re-
ceived permission to transport to Maryland in
1781; personal property valued at £1,014.0.0, in-
cluding 21 slaves and 166 oz. plate, 1783. LAND
AT FIRST ELECTION: probably 1,475 acres in Tal-
bot and Kent counties (575 acres in Talbot County
remaining from 975 acres inherited from his father;
800 acres in Kent County inherited from his brother
James; 100 acres in Talbot County received from
his stepfather in 1739). SIGNIFICANT CHANGES IN

LAND BETWEEN FIRST ELECTION AND DEATH: pur-

chased 1,418 acres in Kent County, including
"Farley" in 1752, and sold his Talbot County
land to his brother Edward Lloyd (1711-1770) by
1759. Gave 800 acres in Kent County to his
daughter at her marriage in ca. 1770, and 705
acres in Kent County to his son in 1780. WEALTH
AT DEATH. DIED: will probated November 14, 1786,
in Kent County. PERSONAL PROPERTY: TEV, at
least £2,586.6.7 (including 22 slaves, over 98 oz.
plate, and books valued at £70.0.0). LAND: prob-
ably 712 acres in Kent County.

LLOYD, ROBERT (ca. 1712-1770). BORN: on
February 19, ca. 1712, in Talbot County; eldest
son. NATIVE: fourth generation. RESIDED: in Tal-
bot County until ca. 1740; Queen Anne's County,
according to public records, until at least 1764.
However, Lloyd probably maintained residences
on both his father's land in Talbot County and
his wife's and stepchildren's land in Queen Anne's

County. FAMILY BACKGROUND. FATHER: James

Lloyd (1679/80-1723), son of Philemon Lloyd
(1646-1685). STEPFATHER: Edward Fottrell (?-
ca. 1742). MOTHER: Anne Grundy (1690-1732).
UNCLES: Edward Lloyd (1670-1718/19); Philemon
Lloyd (ca. 1674-1732/33). AUNTS: Anna Maria
Lloyd (1677-1748), who married Richard Tilgh-
man (1672/73-1738/39); Margaret Lloyd (1683-
1747), who married Matthew Tilghman Ward (ca.
1676-1741). BROTHERS: James (1716/17-1768);
Philemon (1721-died young). HALF OR STEP-
BROTHERS. Edward Fottrell; Thomas Fottrell.
SISTERS: Henrietta Maria (ca. 1711-1748), who
married Samuel Chamberlaine (1698-1773); Mar-
garet (1714-ca. 1785), who married William
Tilghman (1711-1782); Deborah (ca. 1719-1786);
and Anne (ca. 1723-1794), who married Matthew
Tilghman (1717/18-1790). STEPSISTER: Achsah
Fottrell (ca. 1740-?). FIRST COUSINS: Edward Lloyd
(1711-1770); Richard Lloyd (ca. 1717-1786);
Dorothy Blake, who married Charles Carroll
(1691-1755); Henrietta Maria Lloyd (?-1766),
who married second, Daniel Dulany (1685-1753);
Edward Tilghman (1713-1785); Anna Maria
Tilghman (1709-1763), who married first, Wil-
liam Hemsley (1703-1736), and second, Robert
Lloyd (ca. 1712-1770); James Tilghman (1716-
1793); Henrietta Maria Tilghman (1707-1771),
who married first, George Robins (1697-1742),
and second, William Goldsborough (1709-1760);
Mary Tilghman (1702-ca. 1736), who married
James Earle, Jr. (ca. 1694-1739); Matthew Tilgh-
man (1717/18-1790); Grundy Pemberton (?-1768);
and William Tilghman (1711-1782). NEPHEWS:
James Lloyd Chamberlaine (1732-1783); Samuel
Chamberlaine (1742-1811); Richard Tilghman
(1740-1809); Peregrine Tilghman (ca. 1741-1807);
James Tilghman (1743-1809) ; and Jeremiah Nich-
ols (1748-1806). NIECES: Henrietta Maria Lloyd
(?-1822), who married William Hayward, Jr. (ca.
1758-1834); Anne Chamberlaine (1734-1786),
who married Richard Tilghman Earle (1728/29-
1788); and Margaret Tilghman (1742-1817), who
married Charles Carroll, Barrister (1723-1783).
MARRIED probably by 1740 his first cousin Anna
Maria (1709-1763), widow of William Hemsley
(1703-1736) daughter of Richard Tilghman (1672/
73-1738/39) and wife Anna Maria Lloyd (1677-
1748). Anna Maria was the granddaughter of Phi-
lemon Uoyd (1646-1685). She was the niece of
Edward Lloyd (1670-1718/19); Philemon Uoyd (ca.
1674-1732/33); James Lloyd (1679/80-1723);
Margaret Lloyd (1683-1747), who married Mat-
thew Tilghman Ward (ca. 1676-1741); and Re-
