Virginia. Lloyd was presented before the county
court in Virginia in 1649 for not attending the
Anglican Church and refusing to hear common
prayer. Soon after this he settled at Providence,
Anne Arundel County, as one of the leaders of
a group of like-minded religious dissenters. SO-

Lloyd gained appointment to the Council in 1658
in recognition of his considerable economic and
