before the 2nd session of the 1768-1770 Assem-
bly). LOCAL OFFICE: land commissioner, Dor-
chester County, commissioned 1728. MILITARY
SERVICE: called captain at death. WEALTH DURING

LIFETIME. LAND AT FIRST ELECTION: 894 acres in

Dorchester County (869 acres was the remainder
of 919 acres acquired through marriage; 25 acres
by patent). SIGNIFICANT CHANGES IN LAND BE-
TWEEN FIRST ELECTION AND DEATH: sold 200 acres

in Dorchester County to two of his sons, 1760.

"Blenheim" is now known as Laidler Ferry Farm,
located near the present Gov. Harry W. Nice
Memorial Bridge spanning the Potomac River to
Virginia. NATIVE second generation. RESIDED: in
Charles County. FAMILY BACKGROUND. FATHER:
Philip Lee (ca. 1681-1744). MOTHER: Sarah (?-
1724), widow of William Dent (ca. 1660-1704),
daughter of Thomas Brooke (ca. 1659-1730/31).
STEPMOTHER: Elizabeth Lawson Sewall, widow
of Henry Sewall (?-1722), Gent. UNCLE: Thomas
Brooke (1683-1744). AUNT: Priscilla Brooke, who
married Thomas Gantt (?-1765). HALF AUNT: Jane
Brooke (?-1779), who married Alexander Contee
(ca. 1691-1740). BROTHERS: Richard Lee (ca. 1707-
1787); Francis Lee (?-1749); Philip (?-1739); and
Thomas (?-1749). HALF BROTHERS: Hancock (?-

Lee (1736-1807). STEPBROTHERS: Nicholas Lewis

daughter of Samuel Hanson (ca. 1685-1740),
granddaughter of Walter Storey (ca. 1666-1726),
and niece of Robert Hanson (ca. 1680-1748). Her
brothers were Walter Hanson (1711/12-1794);
Samuel Hanson (1716-1794); William (1718/19-
1721); John Hanson, Jr. (1721-1783); and Wil-
liam (1726-?). Her sisters were Elizabeth (1707-
?); Mary (1709/10-?); Sarah (1714-?); Jane (1721/
22-?); and Chloe. Her first cousins were Dorothy
Hanson (1721-1752), who married Richard Har-
rison (?-1780); Mary Hanson, who married Dan-
iel Jenifer (by 1729-1795). CHILDREN. SON: Ar-
thur (by 1749-?), who possibly moved to
Edgecomb County, North Carolina. STEPSON:
Robert Yates, who probably married Sarah, widow

AFFILIATION: Protestant. SOCIAL STATUS AND AC-
TIVITIES: fourth generation descendant of the Vir-
ginia Lees. OCCUPATIONAL PROFILE: planter.

PUBLIC CAREER. LEGISLATIVE SERVICE: Lower

House, Charles County, 1749-1751 (Bills of Credit
1), 1751-1754 (Bills of Credit 1-6), 1757-1758
(Arms and Ammunition 1, Cv, 2), 1758-1760
(died before the 3rd session of the 1758-1761
Assembly). LOCAL OFFICES: justice, Charles
County, 1745-1760; justice, Court of Oyer, Ter-
miner, and Gaol Delivery, Charles County, com-
missioned December 13, 1745. MILITARY SERV-
ICE: captain, Charles County Militia, 1748. WEALTH

DURING LIFETIME. LAND AT FIRST ELECTION: 500

acres in Prince George's County (inherited from
his mother). SIGNIFICANT CHANGES IN LAND BE-
