BIOGRAPHIES JEN

that Jarrett was owed ca. £3,000.0.0, but was in-
debted to his own creditors for £3,500.0.0. AD-
DITIONAL COMMENT: Elizabeth Dallam Stump
Jarrett received over £10,872.0.0 from the estate
of Herman Stump and owned land in Harford
County in her own right. In a prenuptial contract
dated November 16, 1804, however, she assigned
all of her real and personal property in trust to
her friend, Margaret W. Robertson. LAND AT FIRST
ELECTION: at least 610 acres in Harford County,
and possibly some adjoining land in Pennsylvania
(all inherited from his father). SIGNIFICANT

CHANGES IN LAND BETWEEN FIRST ELECTION AND

DEATH: purchased 146 acres in Harford County,
1790; received title to 287 acres in Queen Anne's
County as security for the debts of Robert Ran-
dall whose obligations Jarrett had assumed; sold
47 acres in Harford County, 1796; listed his real
property holdings as 610 acres in fee simple in
Harford County, 104 acres of leasehold land in
Harford County, and 287 acres in Queen Anne's
County, 1797; his insolvency petition in 1800 in-
cluded only the 610 acres in Harford County,
which he had inherited from his father, plus his
interest in 300 acres, which he had probably in-
herited from his brother Eli; bought 141 acres in
Harford County in 1801 as the trustee for four
others and deeded them 108 acres in 1809, prob-
ably retaining 33 acres for himself; sold with his
siblings ca. 568 acres of his brother Eli's land,
1802, and with his brothers sold 14 acres of his
father's land, 1807, all in Harford County; mort-
gaged his 610 acres in Harford County in 1809,
probably to secure the purchase of land in Ken-
tucky; appointed an attorney to sell the Kentucky
land in 1815, and apparently redeemed the mort-
gage; purchased 260 acres in Harford County in
1810, and mortgaged it the same year; purchased
195 acres in Harford County in 1810, and sold it
in 1818; patented 14 acres and purchased 425 acres,
all in Harford County, 1811; purchased his brother
Bennett's rights to land in Harford County and
possibly in Pennsylvania, 1813, and began selling
his original 610 acres in Harford County plus 145
acres, probably in Pennsylvania, in 1816; sold a
total of 755 acres between 1816 and 1827, some
of it possibly new acquisitions in Pennsylvania,
some of it possibly sold in compliance with his
brother Bennett's previous agreements; cleared
title to the 200 acres in Harford County with his
mills, 1819, which was probably land acquired
through his marriage; purchased 66 acres in Har-
ford County, 1822. WEALTH AT DEATH. DIED: after

September 1833 and probably before 1840. LAND:
possibly ca. 875 acres in Harford County and an
unknown amount of land in Pennsylvania.
