Elizabeth Ennalls, who married Roger Woolford
(1670-1730); Ann Brooke, who married first,
Thomas Cooke (?-1692/93). BROTHERS William
Ennalls(?-1731); Joseph (1702-1759); Thomas (?-
1753); and Henry (?-1734). SISTERS: Elizabeth (?-
by 1739), who married Charles Goldsborough
(1707-1767); Mary, who married Henry Hooper

married William Perry (1746-1799); Mary Emer-
son Trippe (ca. 1739-1811), who married Robert
Goldsborough IV (1740-1798); Ann Trippe, who
married John Dickinson (ca. 1726-1789). CHIL-

OCCUPATIONAL PROFILE mariner, 1718; probably
also a planter. PUBLIC CAREER. LEGISLATIVE SER-
VICE: Lower House, Dorchester County, 1738,
1739-1741, 1742-1744, 1745 (Elections),
1745/46-1748 (Elections Cv 1, 1-3, 4). LOCAL
OFFICES: justice, Dorchester County, by 1734-at
least 1743 (quorum, 1734-at least 1743); sheriff,
Dorchester County, 1749-1752; deputy commis-
sary, Dorchester County, in office 1753-1755. MIL-
ITARY SERVICE, captain, by 1730; major, 1748;
called colonel, 1776. WEALTH DURING LIFETIME.

PERSONAL PROPERTY: 27 slaves, 1776. LAND AT

FIRST ELECTION: 659 acres in Dorchester County;
also controlled 324 acres in Dorchester County for
his stepdaughter, Mary Taylor. ADDITIONAL COM-
MENTS: Bartholomew inherited 300 acres in Dor-
chester County from his uncle, Thomas Ennalls
(?-1718). A few months later, in November 1718,
Bartholomew exchanged this inherited land for
600 acres that his brother William Ennalls (?-
1731) owned in Dorchester County. This land
comprised the bulk of his acreage at first election.

SIGNIFICANT CHANGES IN LAND BETWEEN FIRST

ELECTION AND DEATH: acquired 2,050 acres in
Dorchester County by purchase or patent between
1747 and 1769; sold 569 acres in Dorchester
County between 1749 and 1764. WEALTH AT
DEATH. DIED: in 1783, probably in Dorchester
County. PERSONAL PROPERTY: assessed value
£1,357.10.10, including 25 slaves and 2.5 oz. plate,
1783; also paid taxes on 14 slaves for various other
people, 1783. LAND: 1,590 acres in Dorchester
County; not known if he still controlled 324 acres
in Dorchester County for his stepdaughter.

younger son. NATIVE: second generation. RESIDED
in Dorchester County. FAMILY BACKGROUND. FA-
THER: Bartholomew Ennalls (1643-1688).
MOTHER: Mary Heyward. BROTHERS: Thomas En-
nalls(?-1718), who married Elizabeth (1664/65-
1739), daughter of Roger Woolford (?-ca. 1701/2);
William; Joseph Ennalls (?-1709), who married
Mary, daughter of John Brooke (by 1646-
1692/93); and Bartholomew. HALF BROTHERS
Francis Heyward; John Heyward. SISTERS:
Elizabeth (1664/65-1739), who married Roger
Woolford (1670-1730); Mary. MARRIED Mary
(1674-1745), daughter of Henry Hooper(cz 1643-
1720). Her brothers were Richard; John (?-1754);
Roger; Henry Hooper (ca. 1687-1767); Thomas;
and James (1703-1789). Her sisters were Priscilla;
Elizabeth, who married Matthew Travers (ca.
1672-1742); Rebecca; Ann (1687-1767), who mar-
ried John Broome (1676-ca. 1738/39); Mary, who
married first, Levin Hicks (?-1731), son of Thomas
Hicks ( 1659- 1722), and second, John Rider (1686-
1739/40); and Rosannah, who married John Hud-
son, Quartus (?-1751), son of John Hudson (1653-
1730) and wife Sarah. CHILDREN. SONS Henry (?-
1770), who married Margaret; Thomas, who mar-
ried Ann, daughter of Andrew Skinner; Bartholo-
mew (?-by 1752); and Joseph (1709-1756), who
