HENRY LLOYD, ESQUIRE, GOVERNOR.
CHAPTER 494.

AN ACT to provide for the enlargement of
the Maryland State House, and making an
appropriation therefor.

SECTION 1. Be it enacted by the General As-
sembly of Maryland, That the Board of Public
Works of the State of Maryland, and the Li-
brary Committee appointed under the pro-
visions of the acts of eighteen hundred and

seventy, chapter two hundred and seventy-
two, be and they are hereby appointed a Com-
mittee, and as such are authorized and directed
to cause to be erected an enlargement of or
annex to the Maryland State House, which en-
largement or annex shall have special refer-
ence to the needs of the Maryland State Li-
brary, and shall also provide for a sufficient
number of Committee Rooms for the use of
the General Assembly of Maryland, and shall
be, fire-proof throughout.

SEC. 2. And be it enacted, That the said Com-
mittee be and they are hereby authorized and
directed to contract with and employ a good
practical and experienced architect to prepare
under their direction and approval, plans,
specifications and drawings for the annex or
enlargement provided for in section one of
this act, with an estimate of the costs of said
annex or enlargement, and also to supervise
the building of said annex or enlargement, to

see that the work and materials used are in
accordance with the specifications; and said
Committee shall, after a plan is adopted, ad-
vertise for bids for the building of said annex
or enlargement, and shall award the contract
for same to the lowest responsible bidder, who
shall execute a bond to the State of Maryland
in such penalty as the said Committee may
prescribe, for the faithful performance of his
contract; said bond to be approved by the said
Committee, and the said Committee is di-
rected to proceed with all possible dispatch
