HENRY LLOYD, ESQUIRE, GOVERNOR.

four, entitled an act for the better protection
of persons and property in Baltimore county,
be and the same is hereby repealed and re-
eriacted so as to read as follows :

SEC. 2. And be it enacted, That the County
Commissioners of Baltimore county be and
they are hereby authorized and. required to
appoint such number of Policemen as they
may deem necessary for the better protection

of persons and property in Baltimore county,
one of whom shall have control of said Police
Force and shall be designated as Marshal; the
said County Commissioners shall equip and
arm said force and make such rules and regu-
lations for their proper government and dis-
cipline as they may deem best to promote the
efficiency of the same, a copy of which rules
and regulations shall be furnished each officer,
as well as to the Marshal, who shall see that
they are strictly enforced.

SEC. 3. And be it enacted, That it shall be
the duty of said Marshal to require each Po-
liceman at such times of the day or night as
he may be upon duty to preserve the public
peace, prevent crime, and protect the rights of
persons and property; see that all laws re-
lating to the observance of Sunday, and re-
garding gambling, intemperance, vagrants and
disorderly persons are strictly enforced, and
to assist the Sanitary Officer of his district to

and orders that now exist or which may here-
after be passed or issued for the purpose of
maintaining and preserving the public health;
and to arrest all offenders against the laws of
the State and to take such offenders to the
nearest Justice of the Peace for said county,
and for any neglect or violation of the pro-
visions of this section by any officer of the
force, said Marshal shall suspend such, officer
and report his action in the case with the
charges preferred in writing, against such offi-
cer to the Board of County Commissioners at
