HENRY LLOYD, ESQUIRE, GOVERNOR.
SEC. 2. And be it enacted, That the County
Commissioners of Anne Arundel county shall
have power, and it shall be their duty, to pro-
vide for the repair of all public roads and
bridges in said county, and to that end may
adopt any mode or system they may deem
most expedient for the purpose, and may levy
upon the assessable property of the county and
pay the expenditures for such repairs and all
incidental expenses arising therefrom, provid-
ing such expenditures shall not exceed the sum
of fifteen thousand dollars for the annual re-
pairs of roads and five thousand dollars for
the permanent improvement of the same by
shells, gravel, stone or other hard material,
and they may divide the county into road dis-
tricts, not to exceed five in any election dis-

trict; and may appoint Supervisors or other
road officers over the same, at such fixed com-
pensation as they may prescribe, who shall
execute a bond to the State of Maryland, with
two good securities to be approved by the
sai d County Commissioners, and in such penal ty
as the said Commissioners may require for
the faithful performance of his duties; and
it shall be the duty of such Supervisors or
other officers to keep in repair the roads and
bridges of said county, under the direction
and regulation of said Commissioners, for any
neglect of which duty, in the judgment of the
Commissioners, they shall be subject to re-
moval from office, and for that or any other
malfeasance in office be also liable to indict-
ment in the Circuit Court for said county.
SEC. 3. And be it enacted, That the said County
Commissioners, if in their discretion they may
deem it expedient, may make provision for
the employment of one or more permanent
corps of laborers for the repairs of the roads
and bridges of said county, under the super-

may require any officer or officers appointed
for such purpose to give bond in such penalty
