CHAPTER 179.
AN ACT to provide for the support and treat-
ment of indigent patients in the Maryland
General Hospital.
WHEREAS provision has been made by the
State for the cure and treatment of the indigent

insane and of indigent lying-in women, and
none has been made for the relief of the more
numerous class of the general indigent sick
throughout the State, requiring special treat-
ment for acute and chronic diseases; and
WHEREAS the Maryland General Hospital
has been well and firmly established in Balti-
|
Preamble.

|
more city under the auspices of and belonging
to the Faculty of Physic of the Baltimore
Medical College, an institution duly incor-
porated under and by the Laws of the State of
Maryland, and
WHEREAS it is desirable that the benefits of
said hospital should be extended to the poor
|

|
of the State of Maryland, suffering from cura-
ble, acute or chronic medical and surgical
diseases; therefore,
SECTION I. Be it enacted by the General As-
sembly of Maryland, That the sum of thirty-
seven hundred and fifty dollars per annum be
and the same is hereby appropriated for each
of the years eighteen hundred and eighty-six
and eighteen hundred and eighty-seven, for
the maintenance of the said Maryland General

Preamble.

Hospital, and the Comptroller of the State is
hereby authorized and directed to issue his
warrant upon the Treasurer of the State for
the said amounts hereby appropriated, paya-
ble in semi-annual instalments on the first
days of June and December in each of said
years, to be paid to the authorized agent of the
Maryland General Hospital in payment for
the maintenance of free patients in said hos-
pital; it being provided and stipulated that
