profits, are vested perpetually in said com-
pany, and they are hereby exempted from the
payment of all county and municipal taxes
and charges whatsoever for the space 6f fif-
teen years from the organization of said com-
pany.
SEC. 9. And be it enacted, That if any per-
son or persons shall empty or suffer to escape
from their premises into said channel or canal,
or into any water-way or tributary flowing
into said channel, any earth, saw-dust, ballast
or other substance obstructing the same,
shall forfeit and pay the damages sustained

therein, to be recovered before a Justice of
the Peace or Court having cognizance thereof;
and if any person or persons shall wilfully or
maliciously injure any bank, causeway, dam,
dike, wharf, building, vessel or machinery,
such person or persons shall be guilty of a
misdemeanor, and upon indictment, shall be
liable to fine or imprisonment, or both, in the
discretion of the Court having jurisdiction
thereof.

SEC. 10. And be it enacted, That all acts or
parts of acts heretofore passed, inconsistent
with the provisions of this act, be and the
same are hereby repealed.
SEC. 11. And be it enacted, That Edward
White, John W. Henry and John B. Dale, who
were appointed a Board of Commissioners by
an act passed at the January session eighteen
hundred and seventy-eight, chapter four hun-
dred and thirty-six, entitled an act to fill the
vacancies in the Board of Commissioners ap-

pointed by the act of eighteen hundred and
forty, chapter two hundred and fifteen, enti-
tled an act for cleaning out the Pocomoke
river, by means of a lottery, be and they are
hereby authorized and empowered to invest
all money or moneys now in their hands,
bonds or interest on bonds, in the capital
stock of said company.
