CHAPTER 128.
AN ACT to appropriate a certain sum of money
to preserve the charter of the Maryland
State Agricultural and Mechanical Associa-
tion.
WHEREAS the State of Maryland has the sum
of fifty thousand dollars invested in the Pim-
lico Fair Grounds, appropriated at various times
to encourage the agricultural and mechanical
interests of Maryland, having also incorporated
the said association, providing in its charter
"that the association shall forfeit the same if
they should neglect to hold at least one exhib-
ition every third year on these grounds;" the

charter has been complied with so far, but
owing to bad weather and other circumstances,
over which they had no control, the exhibition
held in the Fall of eighteen hundred and
eighty-three, did not yield sufficient revenue
to enable them to hold exhibitions in the Fall
of eighteen hundred and eighty-four or the
Fall of eighteen hundred and eighty-five, but
they did hold exhibitions each of these years
at Hagerstown in connection with the Wash-
ington County Society, they assuming all finan-
cial responsibility; and
WHEREAS the association are obliged to hold
an exhibition on Pimlico during the year
eighteen hundred and eighty-six, or said char-
ter will be forfeited, with grounds and exten-
sive improvements, thereby the State would

lose largely of what it has invested in this
property, but by the appropriation of three
thousand dollars, the association can be put on
its feet, and continue to encourage the agri-
cultural and mechanical interests of the State,
besides protecting the State's interests in the
property to the extent of perhaps its entire
investment.
SECTION 1. Be it enacted by the General As-
