Restrictions
upon officers.

from said town or claim upon the same for
work done or to be done by or under any by-
law of the said town, or to be engaged in any
contract, directly or indirectly, or concerned in
any manner in doing work of any kind, or fur-
nishing of supplies or receiving any percentage
on any purchases or contracts made by the
said Commissioners, or by their order; and any
Commissioner or other officer offending herein
shall be fined in a sum not exceeding five hun-
dred dollars, and it shall be obligatory on the
said Commissioners, upon being apprised of
any violation of this section to dismiss forth-
with from office any Commissioner or other
officer who may be found guilty of such viola-
tion.

SEC. 13. And be it enacted, That all officers
elected or appointed under this charter shall,
before they enter upon the duties of their

office, take an oath that they will diligently
and faithfully, to the best of their judgment,,
discharge the duties of their office without
favor, partiality or prejudice, and shall file the
certificate of the officer before whom the same
was taken among the records of the corpora-
tion.

SEC. 14. And, be it enacted, That the Commis-
sioners shall have power to appoint annually,
in the month of June, a Clerk, and assign his
duties and fix his compensation; to appoint
annually such policemen and other officers as
they may deem necessary, who, when so ap-
pointed, shall be and are hereby vested with

of said county now have under the laws of
this State; to pass by-laws to preserve the
health of the town; to prevent and remove
nuisances, and to prevent the introduction of
contagious diseases within the limits of said
town; for preserving order, securing property
and persons from violence, danger or destruc-
tion, and for insuring the good government of
the town, and to impose fines and penalties for
