Chapter 434.


AN ACT to authorize and empower the vestry of


Chester Parish, in Kent county, to remove the re-


mains of persons interred in the old burying ground


attached to said parish church, and to sell and con-


vey, in their discretion, the whole or any part of


said ground.


WHEREAS the old burying ground in Chestertown,


belonging to the vestry of Chester Parish, has been


for many years disused, all available space having


been long since appropriated, and all interments being


now made in Chester cemetery; and, whereas, the


brick wall which formerly enclosed said old burying


ground, has been twice destroyed and removed by

trespass and desecration, which the vestry are unable


to prevent or punish; and, whereas, said burying


ground, in the condition in which it is, and has


been for many years, is a discredit to the town and


church, therefore —


SECTION 1. Be it enacted, by the General Assembly


of Maryland, That the vestry of Chester Parish be


and they are hereby authorized and empowered to re-


move from the said burying ground the remains of all


such persons interred therein as shall be capable of

county, once in each of three successive weeks, warn-


ing all persons interested to remove the tombstones


and remains of relatives and friends interred therein,


and said remains, when removed by said vestry, shall


be deposited in some suitable place, and a record


thereof shall be kept upon the minutes of said vestry,


SEC. 2. And be it enacted, That after the removal


of all such remains as shall be capable of identifica-


tion, the said vestry of Chester parish be and they are
