Chapter 373.

AN ACT to appropriate a sum of money to reim-
|
|
|
|
burse Samuel J. Hopkins, Register of Yoters for
|
|
|
|
the fifth election district of Montgomery county,
|
|
|
|
for moneys laid out and expended by him in defend-
|
|
|
|
ing a suit in the circuit court of the United States
|
|
|
|
for the district of Maryland.
|
|
|
|
WHEEBAS Samuel J. Hopkins, register of voters for
|
|
|
|
the fifth election district of Montgomery county, was
|
|
|
|
wrongfully indicted in the circuit court of the United
|
|
|
|
States for the district of Maryland, for a pretended
|
|
|
|
violation of section five thousand five hundred and
|
|
|
Preamble.
|
twelve of the revised statutes of the United States,
|
|
|
|
whilst in the lawful discharge of his duties as such
|
|
|
|
officer of registration; and whereas said Samuel J.
|
|
|
|
Hopkins was subjected to and incurred heavy costs
|
|
|
|
for counsel fees and court expenses, in making his
|
|
|
|
defence, which resulted in his acquittal; now, there-
|
|
|
|
fore —
|
|
|
|
SECTION 1. Be it enacted by the General Assembly
|
|
|
|
of Maryland, That the comptroller be and he is
|
|
|
|
hereby directed to issue his warrant on the treasurer
|
|
|
Draw warrant
for fees, &c.
|
to pay to Samuel J. Hopkins the sum of three hun-
|
|
|
|
dred and twenty-five dollars the amount of counsel
|
|
|
|
fees and court expenses incurred by the said Samuel
|
|
|
|
J. Hopkins in making his defence as aforesaid.
|
|
|
|
SEC. 2. And be it enacted, That this act shall take
|
|
|
