SEC. 2. And be it enacted. That the persons in


charge of said engine shall, at the signal or request of


any person riding a horse, or of any person leading or


driving a horse or horses attached to any vehicle, or


at the indication of such horse or horses becoming

alarmed by said engine, shall go as far as practicable


to the side of the road, and remain stationary until


the said horse or horses have passed to a safe distance,


in the meantime making as little noise as possible with


the steam.


SEC. 3. And be it enacted,, That whenever such


engine shall be propelled in a narrow road of thirty


feet or less, one of the said men shall precede the said


engine at least one hundred and fifty yards, to warn
