general or special election submitting any question or prop-
osition to the people, placing on the ballots only the names
of all persons properly nominated for Mayor and City
Councilmen, as provided in the preceding section, arrang-
ing them alphabetically and without emblems or other dis-
tinguishing marks or signs, after which shall be placed
any proposition to be submitted to vote of the people, and
all of said names of candidates and propositions shall be
in a single vertical column; and they shall cause the names
of all the candidates for the same office grouped together,
with space between each group wherein the voter may
write additional name or names if he so desires. The offi-
cial ballot shall be substantial, plain white paper, not less
than four nor more than six inches wide, and there shall
be a square at the right of the name of each candidate, and
to vote for any candidate or candidates the voter shall
make a cross (X) mark in the square opposite the name
of each candidate for whom he may desire to vote, but he
shall not vote for more candidates than there are offices
to be filled, and the said official ballot shall be printed as
near as practicable in accordance with the following sam-
ple, the date and names to be changed:

Town of Laurel.
Official Ballot.
For Municipal Election, April 0, 1934.

Put a cross (X) mark opposite the name or
names voted for.

For Mayor.
Vote for one only.

Samuel Hann.

For Councilmen at Large:
Vote for two only.

John Brown,

Caleb Wahl,
Charles Carroll,
Morton Stanton.

For Councilman from the First Ward:
Vote for one only.

Samuel Canfield.
John Storm.
