SEC. 2. And be it further enacted, That this Act shall
take effect June 1, 1933.

CHAPTER 398.

AN ACT to repeal and re-enact with amendments Section
534 of Article 11 of the Code of Public Local Laws of
Maryland (1930 Edition), title "Frederick County, " sub-
title "Middletown, " relating to the powers of the Burgess
and Commissioners of Middletown, particularly with
reference to the Water Department of said town.

SECTION 1. Be it enacted by the General Assembly of
Maryland, That Section 534 of Article 11 of the Code of
Public Local Laws of Maryland (1930 Edition), title
"Frederick County, " sub-title "Middletown, " be and it is
hereby repealed and re-enacted with amendments so as to
read as follows:

534. The Burgess and Commissioners of Middletown
may enact ordinances for the following purposes, to wit:
to grade, level and repair sidewalks; to construct cause-
ways; to regulate and keep in repair streets, lanes and al-
leys; to restrain and prohibit gaming; to provide for
licensing or restraining theatrical or other public exhibi-
tions or amusements within the town; for the prevention
and extinguishment of fires, and the purchase and keeping
in repair and preservation, a fire engine and apparatus,
and to provide for the establishment, regulation, manage-
ment and protection of a water department to furnish a
supply of water to the Municipal Corporation of Middle-
town, and to all residents thereof, to fix and establish
rates or charges for the use of water, to provide for
the collection and enforcing payments of water rents,
and all charges therefor, and said water rents and all
charges in connection therewith shall be liens on the
real estate to which water is supplied 'and upon which
water is consumed, and for which such rent or charge
is made from the time such rent or charge becomes
