AN ACT to render valid the official acts of Thomas
|
 
|
Melvin as justice of the peace in and for the third
|
 
|
election district of Caroline county.
|
 
|
WHEREAS it has been reported to this General
|
 
|
Assembly that Thomas Melvin was appointed a
|
 
|
justice of the peace in and for the third election dis-
|
 
|
trict of Caroline county, and that he duly qualified
|
 
|
by taking the oath of office on the first day of May,
|
 
|
eighteen hundred and seventy-eight, and continued
|
 
|
therefore to perform the duties of said office; and
|
Preamble.
|
whereas, the said Thomas Melvin, Esq., was after-
|
 
|
wards reappointed to the same office in eighteen
|
 
|
hundred and eighty, but failed thereafter to take the
|
 
|
oath of office as prescribed by law, but notwithstand-
|
 
|
ing such failure continued and still continues to dis-
|
 
|
charge the duties of said office; and whereas, doubts
|
 
|
are entertained as to the validity of his official acts
|
 
|
since his said reappointment and failure to qualify
|
 
|
as aforesaid —
|
 
|
SECTION 1. Be it enacted by the General Assem-
|
 
|
bly of Maryland, That all the official acts done and
|
 
|
performed by said Thomas Melvin, Esquire, since
|
 
|
his said reappointment in eighteen hundred and
|

eighty, be and the same are hereby declared to be
|
 
|
valid and lawful in the same manner as if he had,
|
 
|
after his said reappointment, duly taken the oath of
|
 
|
office prescribed by the constitution and laws.
|
 
|
SEC. 2. Be it enacted, That this act shall take
