AN ACT to appropriate a sum of money to pay the
|
 
|
claim of Catharine A. Kernan, widow.
|
 
|
WHEREAS Thomas P. Kernan was a duly elected
|
 
|
member of the House of Delegates at its January
|
 
|
session, 1878, and having qualified as such, was pre-
|
 
|
vented from fully performing his legislative duties on
|
 
|
account of a long and painful illness; and whereas,
|
 
|
his failure to have an order passed excusing him
|

from attendance to the duties of his office was occa-
|
 
|
sioned by his ignorance of the rules of the House
|
 
|
of Delegates governing such cases; and whereas,
|
 
|
said Thomas P. Kernan has lately died, leaving his
|
 
|
widow, Catharine A. Kernan, dependent for her
|
 
|
own support and that of her children upon her own
|
 
|
exertions; now, therefore —
|
 
|
SECTION 1. Be it enacted by the General Assem-
|
 
|
bly of Maryland, That the Treasurer, upon the
|
 
|
warrant of the Comptroller, who is hereby author-
|
 
|
ized and directed to issue the same, be and is hereby
|
 
|
authorized and directed to pay to Catharine A. Ker-
|
 
|
nan, the widow of the late Thomas P. Kernan, the
|

and mileage.

sum of four hundred and sixty-five dollars, for mile-
|
 
|
age and per diein salary due the said Thomas P.
|
 
|
Kernan at the time of his death as a member of the
|
 
|
House of Delegates of Maryland at its January ses-
|
 
|
sion, 1878, from the second legislative district of
|
 
|
Baltimore city, this claim having first been reported
|
 
|
upon by the Comptroller as required by the consti-
|
 
|
tution.
|
 
|
SEC. 2. Be it enacted, That this act shall take
|
