MONDAY, January 24th, 1876.
Senate met at 12 M.
Prayer by the Rev. Mr. Canter.
Present at roll call the following Senators:

Messrs. President, Aydelotte, Bannon. Brewer, Dennis,
Ford, Getty, Gorman, Joyce, Lee, Lawrence, Lloyd, McCul-
loh, Newcomer, Phelps, Stevens, Steiner, Suit—18

Proceedings of Friday read and approved.

Mr. Stevens presented the memorial of J. H. Kepner, J.
E. Carr, Jordon Stabler and 300 other retail merchants in
the City of Baltimore, praying the repeal of the attachment
law of 1874.

Which was read, and referred to the Committee on Judicial
Proceedings.

Also by Mr. Stevens,

The memorial of 750 clerks, mechanics, laboring men and
sewing women of the. City of Baltimore, for the repeal of the
attachment law of 1874.

Which was read and referred to the Committee on Judi-
cial Proceedings.

On motion by Mr. Lloyd, it was

Ordered, That it be entered on the Journal that Senator
Knight is absent from his seat in the Senate on account of
indisposition.

Which was adopted.

On motion by Mr. Aydelotte, it was

Ordered, That the Secretary of the Senate be, and he is here-
by respectfully requested to leave the usual number of copies
of the daily Journal of the Senate to be folded and placed
on the desks of Senators.

Mr. Phelps submitted the following:

Ordered, That the Committee on Education be and they
are hereby lequested to inquire into the expediency of intro-
ducing a bill to repeal so much of the General School Laws
as obliges the commissioners of tax in the several counties of
this State, to levy upon the property of said counties a given
amount for the support of the Public Schools, when ordered
