Gentlemen of the Senate :

We have received the Message of your Honorable Body,
proposing that the Presiding Officers of the two Houses, ad-
dress to Barnes Compton, Esq., a joint letter informing him
of his election as State Treasurer, and we concur therein.

Senate bill entitled an Act to provide for the removal of
Guardianships from Allegany to Garrett county, where the
Guardian and Ward or Wards reside in Garrett county,

Was read the third time, and passed by yeas and nays as

The Clerk of the House of Delegates appeared and deliv-
ered the following message:

BY THE HOUSE OF DELEGATES,

January 19th, 1876.
Gentlemen of the Senate;

This House has referred to the Joint Standing Committee
under Section 24, Article III, of the Constitution, the in-
quiry as to the alleged receipt by the State Treasurer of in-
terest or other consideration from Banks, or other depositories
of State money, for placing the same with them on deposit
without accounting for such to the State.

This House, therefore, respectfully request the concurrence
of your Honorable Body in an instruction to said Committee,
that it do proceed at .once with said inquiry, with authority, not
only to send for books, documents, papers and accounts, and
summon and examine on oath, witnesses, but also, to sit
