Somerset county, praying for the enactment of a law to
authorize the purchase by the said county, of the Pocomoke
bridge at Newtown, across the Pocomoke river.

Which was read and referred to Messrs. Dennis, Aydelotte
and Humphreys.

Mr. Humphreys presented the memorial of 25 citizens of
Wicomico county, praying for the passage of a Local Option
Law for said county.

Which was read and referred to the Committee on Fi-
nance.

On motion by Mr. Stevens,

Leave was granted to the Committee on Judicial Proceed-
ings, to introduce a bill entitled an Act to repeal Section 38,
of Article 75, Public General Laws, sub-title "Practice," and
to re-enact the same with amendments.
On motion by Mr. Mudd,

Leave was granted to the Committee on Elections, to in-
troduce a bill entitled an Act to regulate the qualifications of
judges and clerks of election, and of registers of voters with-
in the State of Maryland, and to add the following Sections
providing therefor, to the 35th Art. of the Code of Public
General Laws, title "Elections."
On motion by Mr. Gorman,

Leave was granted to the Committee on Finance, to intro-
duce a bill to authorize the Comptroller of the Treasury to
adjust the accounts of H. Resley, late Clerk of Allegany
county.

Mr. Gorman, from the Committee on Finance, reported
favorably,

Senate bill entitled an Act to repeal Section 43, of Article
56, of the Code of Public General Laws, relating to "Li-
censes," and to re-enact the same with amendments.

Which was read the first time.

And unfavorably,

Senate bill entitled an Act to repeal Sections 37, 38, 39
and 40. of Article 56, of the Code of Public General Laws,
title "Licenses," and to re-enact the same with amendments
and to change the sub-title for said Sections.

Which was adopted.

Mr. Stevens, from the Committee on Judicial Proceedings,
reported back to the Senate the following order:

Ordered, That the Committee on Judicial Proceedings, be
required to inquire and report, by bill, or otherwise, the pro-
priety of abolishing the manufacturing of all intoxicating
liquors in this State, and prohibiting the sale of the same in
said State under a heavy penalty,
