Laws, title "Slander," to enable married women to maintain
actions for words spoken maliciously, touching their charac-
ter or reputation for chastity, and tending to the injury
thereof.

Which was read the first time and referred to the Commit-
tee on Judicial Proceedings.

House bill entitled an Act to appropriate $7,000, or so

much thereof as may be necessary for the purchasing of a
suitable lot, and the erection thereon of scales adapted to the
weighing of hay, straw and live stock.

Which was read the first time and referred to the Commit-
tee on Finance.

House bill entitled an Act to add a Section to Article 65,
of the Code of Public General Laws, title "Negligence," for
the purpose of regulating the proof and effect of negligence
in actions therefor under said Article, and at Common
Law.

Which was read the first time and referred to the Commit-
tee on Judicial Proceedings.

House bill entitled an Act to add a Section to Article 69,
of the Code of Public General Laws, entitled "Officers," to
enable parties injured by tortious acts of Sheriffs and Con-
stables, to have a remedy against the official bonds of such
officers.

Which was read the first time and referred to the Commit-
tee on Judicial Proceedings.

House bill entitled an Act to repeal chapter 221, of the
Acts of 1874, regulating the measurement of oysters.

Which was read the first time and referred to the Commit-
tee on Chesapeake Bay and its Tributaries.

Mr Stevens presented the memorial of the Board of Trade
of Baltimore, remonstrating against bill No. 55, in relation
to Sample Traders.

Which was read and referred to the Committee on Fi-
nance.

Mr. Phelps presented the memorial of sundry citizens of
Dorchester county, protesting against the passage by the
Senate of the Fox Creek Railroad bill.

Which was read and referred to Messrs. Phelps, Aydelotte

and Cooper.

Mr. Joyce presented the memorial of George W. Melvin,
praying that his name he restored to the list of Chesapeake
Pilots.

Which was read and referred to the Committee on Chesa-
peake Bay and its Tributaries.
