Said bill was then sent to the House of Delegates.

Mr. Bannon, from Select Committee, (by unanimous con-
sent,) reported favorably,

Senate bill entitled an Act to establish a free bridge over
the Patapsco River, between Baltimore city and Anne Arun-
del county, at or sear the present site of Light Street Bridge,

With the following amendment:

AMENDMENT PROPOSED.

Strike out all after the enacting clause and insert that a
jury of twelve discreet citizens be selected by the Sheriffs of
Baltimore city and Anne Arundel county , six respectively,
from a drawn panel of twelve each ; whose duty it shall be to a
condemn said bridge for removal ; to fix for the same, a fair
compensation to the owners, looking only to its cost. The
amount so decided upon and awarded, to be paid equally by
the State, and City of Baltimore.

The bridge to be removed, and a free bridge constructed
from near the present terminus in Brooklyn, nearly due west,
to a point in Baltimore county, to be discreetly selected by
the Commissioners of Anne Arundel and Baltimore counties,
and the Street Commissioners of Baltimore city; the materials
of the present bridge, with the draw, to be used in the con-
struction of the new bridge, as far as they may be foqnd
sound and in good condition. A street or streets to be opened
and graded in Raltimore county under the supervision of the
Commissioners, of Baltimore city, to intersect Russell street
extended to the city limits, a free bridge to be erectel by the
city across Gwynn's Falls.

Be it enacted, That when the amounts to be paid to the
owners of the present bridge, as awarded by the jury, the cost
of removal of this present bridge, and the construction of the
new bridge, to be free of toll, from Brooklyn to Baltimore
county, near the points designated ; the old bridge to be re-
moved and the new bridge to be constructed under contracts,
to be given out by, and under the supervision of the Com-
missioners of Anne Arundel county and Baltimore city jointly.
The Comptroller of the State and city, respectively, be and
are hereby authorized and instructed to include the gross
amount of the expense, half each, in their estimated tax levy
for the year 1877, for the collection of their respective amounts
in said year.

Be it enacted, That any parties applying for a charter to
establish a ferry from Brooklyn, Anne Arundel county, to
Baltimore city, near Ferry Bar, be granted them, under such
restriction as to fares, hours of running and general regula-
tions as the Legislature in its wisdom may see fit to impose,
