Senate bill entitled an Act to amend the Act approved
March 30th, 1868, entitled an Act to incorporate the Gary
Manufacturing Company of Maryland.

Mr. Cooper presented the following:

BALTIMORE, Feby. 25th, 1876,

Messrs John H. Cooper and Lewis H. Steiner of the Sen-
ate, and H. H. Lamottp, O. P. Baldwin, jr., and Henry W.
Rusk, of the House of Delegates.

Gentlemen:—Your letter on behalf of the General Assem-
bly of Maryland informing me that I was duly elected on
Friday, January 28th, 1876, "by a majority of the votes of
both Houses a Police Commissioner of the City of Baltimore,
for the term of six years from March, 1877," has been re-
ceived.

In accepting the distinguished honor conferred by the
Assembly, I must be allowed to express my grateful appre-
ciation of the kind words employed by yon, in conveying to
me the official notice. When I enter on the administration
of the very important duties of this office, it will be with the
disposition, to make an honest effort to do everything, "to
redound to the good order and well being of the City of Bal-
timore," and to do nothing that will take from me the assis-
tance and support of the confidence so largely associated
with my election.

I am gentlemen, with great respect, for you personally and.
those you represent,
