Was read be third time and passed by yeas and nays, as
follows:

NEGATIVE—None.
Said bill was then returned to the House of Delegates.

House bill entitled a supplement to the Acts incorporating
the Western Maryland Railroad Company, and conferring
new powers on said Company,
Being upon its third reading,

Mr. Stevens submitted the following amendment:
AMENDMENT PROPOSED.

Add at end of Section 4: "but if the capital stock of said
Company shall be taxed, the property thereof shall be ex-
empt from taxation, and if the property of said Company is
taxed, its capital stuck shall be exempt from taxation."

Which was rejected.

Mr. German moved to strike out the enacting clause.

Which was adopted.

Said bill was then returned to the House of Delegates.

Mr. For ( (by unanimous consent) submitted the following:

WHEREAS. It is currently reported that James T. Earle, a
witnes summoned by the Joint Standing Committee ap-
pointed in conformity to Section 24, of the 3d Article of the
Constitution, has been assaulted by an officer of the State
while he (Earle) was in the City of Annapolis in obedience
to a summons of said Committee, therefore,

Ordered, That the aforesaid Joint Standing Committee be,
and are hereby directed to inquire into ail the facts and re-
port what action, it any, should be taken by the Senate or
House of Delegates

Which was adopted.
