256 JOURNAL OF PROCEEDINGS [Feb. 18,

FRIDAY, February 18th, 1876.
Senate met at 11 A. M.

Prayer by Rev. Father Schwarz.

Present at roll call the following Senators :

Messrs. President, Bannon, Brewer, Cooper, Dennis,
Freeman, Ford, Getty, Gorman, Hepbron, Humphreys,
Joyce, Knight, Lee, Lawrence, Lloyd, McCulloh, Mudd,
Newcomer, Phelps, Stevens, Steiner, Suit, Walsh—24.

Proceedings of yesterday read and approved.

Mr. Stevens presented the memorial of P. T. George &
Co., and fifty others, merchants of Baltimore city,'against
any encroachment upon the harbor of Baltimore.

Which was read and referred to the Baltimore city
Senators.

Mr. Steiner presented the memorial of Joshua Biggs,
James Thomas, Joseph A. Miller, and 105 others, citizens
of Frederick county, praying the General Assembly to pass
a law for the protection of fish in the Monocacy river, and
its tributaries, by preventing their being caught except by
hooks and lines.

Which was read and referred to Messrs. Steiner, Lee and
Brewer.

Mr. Cooper presented the memorial of H. N. Richey, Geo.
Straup and others, citizens of Baltimore city, against filling
up the basin.

Which was read and referred to the Baltimore city
Senators.

The President presented the memorial of R. J. W. Gary,
and 100 others, citizens of Caroline county, to have the
State Constitution amended, so as to have a poll tax.

Which was read and referred to the Committee on Judicial
Proceedings.

Also, by the President,

The memorial of Charles Stevens, and 50 others, citizens
of Caroline county, praying the passage of an Act for the
re-assessment of all property.

Which was read and referred to the Committee on Fi-
nance.

Also,

The memorial of George W. Spurry, and 20 others, citi-
