STATE OF MARYLAND,

Treasurer's Office,
Annapolis, January 25th, 1876.
Gentlemen :

Your favor of the 18th inst., informing me of my election
by the Legislature, to the posit on of State Treasurer for
the ensuing two years, was received this morning.

Thanking you, and through you, the Legislature of this
State, for this renewed manifestation of confidence and es-
teem, with the assurance of a firm purpose to administer
the trust with an eye single to the welfare of the common-
wealth of which we are citizens, I accept the office, and
shall at an early day proceed to qualify as required by the
Constitution and Laws.

With sentiments of warm personal regard, I am,

OFFICE OF THE SECRETARY OF THE SENATE,
January 27th, 1876.

The following Senate bills having passed both branches
of the General Assembly of Maryland, were this day pre-
sented to his Excellency, the Governor, for his approval.

No. 1.—An Act to authorize and direct the Governor to
convey a portion of the State Hay Scales Lot in the City of
Baltimore, to the Mayor and City Council of Baltimore.

No. 2.—An Act to authorize the Court of Appeals to hear
the appeal of the Mayor and City Council of Baltimore, and
James M. Anderson, Collector, against the Grand Lodge of
