On the question being put, it was determined in the nega-
tive by yeas and nays as follows :

AFFIRMATIVE.
Messrs. President, Lee,

Aydelotte, Lloyd,
Bannon, Phelps,
Getty, Steiner,
Gorman, Walsh—11.
Hepbron,

NEGATIVE.

Messrs. Brewer, Joyce,

Cooper, Knight,

Duke, Lawrence,

Dennis, Mndd,

Freeman, Stevens,

Humphreys, Suit—12.

So the Senate refused to advise and consent to said nomina-
tion.

Mr. Walsh, from the Committee on Executive Nomina-
tions, to which had been referred the nomination of James
Miller as Justice of the Peace for the 9th district, and Wil-
liam H. Reever as Justice of the Peace for the 12th district of
Baltimore county, reported the Committee were of opinion
that said nominations ought to be confirmed.

Whereupon,

On motion by Mr. Freeman,
The Senate advised and consented to said nominations.

On motion by Mr. Stevens,

The Senate resumed the consideration of Legislative busi-
ness.

FRIDAY, March 11, 1876.

T he following communications which had been received
from his Excellency, Governor Carroll, by the hands of Hon.
Richard C. Hollyday, Secretary of State, were read :
