1082 EXECUTIVE PROCEEDINGS

On motion by Mr. Freeman,

The Senate advised and consented to the aforegoing nom-
inations.

On motion by Mr. Gorman,

The Senate resumed the consideration of Legislative busi-
ness.

FRIDAY, March 3, 1876

The following communications which had been received
from his Excellency, Governor Carroll, by the hands of the
Hon. Richard C. Hollyday, were read :

STATE OF MARYLAND,

EXECUTIVE DEPARTMENT,

Annapolis, March 3, 1876
Gentlemen of the Senate of Maryland:

I have the honor to request the withdrawal of the name of
Thomas H. Offutt, nominated as Justice of the Peace in the
4th district of Montgomery county, and to nominate in his

stead Jas. L Byas

JOHN LEE CARROLL

On motion by Mr. Gorman,

The Senate consented to the withdiawal of the name of
Thomas H. Offutt.

On motion by Mr. Brewer,

The Senate advised and consented to the appointment of
James L. Bias in place of Thomas H. Offutt, withdrawn.

Mr. Walsh, from the Committee on Executive Nomina-
tions, to which had been referred the nomination of R. M.
Powell as Justice of the Peace lor the 8th ward of Baltimore
City, reported that the Committee were of opinion that said

nomination ought to be confirmed.

The question upon the adoption of the report was deter-
mined in the negative.

Mr. Gorman moved that the Senate advise and consent to
said nomination.
