Ward,
So the motion to indefinitely postpone was adopted.
Mr. Hodges submitted the following
JOINT RESOLUTIONS.
WHEREAS, The Naval Academy of the United States, as
well as the property known as Fort Madison, is situated on
the harbor of the City of Annapolis.
And whereas, The entrance to said harbor is materially
obstructed, and the navigation of the mouth of the Severn
river impeded, to the great detriment aad injury of the
operations of the Naval School, as well as of the commerce of
the State, by the inadequacy of depth of water at the en-
trance of said harbor.
And whereas, It is estimated that a reasonable outlay of
money, for more fully deepening said entrance to the harbor
would obviate the difficulties under which said harbor la-
bors to the great advantage of both the Navy of the United
States as well as of the commerce of this State ; therefore,
Be it resolved by the General Assembly of Maryland, That
the Senators and Representatives from the State of Maryland
in Congress assembled, be and they are hereby requested to
urge upon Congress the appropriation of a sum of money
