90 JOURNAL OF PROCEEDINGS [Jan. 19,
Mr. Curtis presented the petition of Alexander D. Brown,
John Rush Street, Joshua H. Talbott and 14 others in favor
of removal of Eastern Hay Scales.
Which was read, and referred to the Select Committee on
that subject.
Mr. Brown presented the petition of G. N. Hollins, for a
Pension.
Which was read, and referred to the Committee on Pen-
sions.
Mr. Smith of Dorchester, submitted the following Message:
BY THE HOUSE OF DELEGATES,
January 19th, 1876.
Gentlemen of the Senate ;
We have received your message proposing to appoint a
Joint Committee of seven, on the Centennial, and respectfully
concur therein.
We name as members of the Committee on part of the
House, Messrs. Smith, of Dorchester, Loane, Brooke, Hod-
ges, Rusk, Purnell and Dodson.

Chief Clerk.
Which was read, assented to, and sent to the Senate.
Mr. Donaldson submitted the following Message :
BY THE HOUSE OF DELEGATES,
January 19th, 1876.
Gentlemen of the Senate:
This House has referred to the Joint Standing Committee
under Section 24, Article 3, of the Constitution, the inquiry
as to the alleged receipt by the State Treasurer of interest or
other consideration from banks or other depositories of State
moneys for placing the sain with them on deposit without
accounting for such to the State.
This House therefore respectfully requests the concurrence
of your Honorable Body in an instruction to said Committee
that it do proceed at once with said inquiry, with authority
not only to send for books, documents, papers and accounts,
and summon and examine on oath witnesses, but also to sit
during the sitting of either or both of the Houses of the Gen-
