hereby, requested to compile and bind said Consolidated Di-
rectory in such style and form as may be deemed proper and
fitting for this occasion.
Resolved by the Senate, the Assembly concurring, That the
good faith of the State of Wisconsin is hereby pledged to pay
to the General Government the cost of such a number of
copies of said directory as are herein designated, upon their
completion and reception, vix: One copy for each member
therein recorded from this State of Wisconsin, which said
copies shall be delivered to each such member by the State,
and, together with one hundred copies for the use of the
State, to be deposited with the State Librarian.
Resolved by the Senate, the Assembly concurring, That the
Governor be, and he is hereby, requested, upon the passage
of these resolutions, to transmit a copy of the same to the
President of the Senate and the Speaker of the House of Rep -
resentatives of the United States, to each of our Senators and
Representatives in Congress, to the Governor of each of the
several States, to the President of the Senate and Speaker of
the House of the legislative body of each of the States of this
Union, and solicit their co-operation and concurrence in the
same.

The said resolutions from the Executive of the State of
Wisconsin, were read and referred to the Select Committee
on that subject.
The Speaker submitted the following communication:
HOUSE OF DELEGATES,
Annapolis, March 10th, 1876.
To the Speaker of the House of Delegates:
Sir:—In response to the order of the House adopted March
8th, I would respectfully say that in my opinion the number
of clerks employed by the House is sufficient. Should Mr.
Kidd, Chief Clerk, unfortunately remain indisposed after this
week, it will be necessary, in my judgment, to appoint some
capable person as Acting Journal Clerk, so as to permit the
Engrossing Clerk to attend to the duties of his own position,
which are both responsible and laborious. I am further of
the opinion that there would be a wise economy in the em-
